Accessible Websites
With Care.

We design and develop accessible websites that align with WCAG standards, address requirements for affected offers and still feel visually refined and easy to use - across devices, input methods and for as many users as possible.

Accessibility on the Web

More Than a Requirement.

Since accessibility laws such as the European Accessibility Act and the BFSG came into force, digital accessibility is no longer optional for many affected companies. But accessibility is more than a legal requirement. It helps as many people as possible use a website reliably, regardless of vision, motor ability, hearing or cognitive conditions. It also improves the experience for everyone else through clearer structures, better readability, cleaner HTML and stronger organic visibility.

At BxW, accessibility is part of the design process, not a final checklist. We understand the technical standards, design decisions and human needs behind WCAG criteria. From that understanding, we develop websites that are accessible, high-quality and compliance-oriented without sacrificing visual ambition or user experience.

Typical Projects

What We Build Accessible Websites For.

Accessibility matters for new websites as much as existing ones. Whether a company needs a new build, remediation or an audit, accessibility should be approached early and with the right level of care.

For public institutions and organizations that need accessible information, clear content structures and compliance with established public-sector requirements.

Quality Standard

What Accessibility Needs.

Accessibility is not one feature. It comes from the interaction of structure, design, code and content, planned consistently and implemented carefully.

WCAG Conformance at Level AA

Perceivable, operable, understandable and compatible experiences are implemented and reviewed systematically according to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Semantic HTML and Clear Structure

Heading hierarchy, landmarks, ARIA attributes, alternative text and form labels help assistive technologies understand and navigate the full website.

Design That Includes Accessibility

Contrast, type sizes, color independence, focus indicators and touch target sizes are designed so the website works visually for a broad range of users.

Keyboard and Screen Readers

Functions, navigation, forms and interactive elements are usable by keyboard and understandable for screen readers.

Documentation and Statement

Conformance status, accessibility statement and feedback mechanism are prepared so requirements from EAA, BFSG, EN 301 549 or public-sector rules can be documented clearly.

Services

From Audit to Accessible Website.

Accessibility at BxW connects audit, design, development and testing in one process, so accessibility becomes part of quality instead of an additional layer.

The Right Partner

Why BxW.

Accessibility needs more than technical knowledge. It needs an understanding of how people use websites and the ambition to treat accessibility and design quality as one shared standard.

01

Accessibility in the Design Process

Accessibility is not a final test for us. It is part of concept, design and development, so accessibility is treated as a quality standard from the beginning.

02

WCAG Expertise and Technical Depth

We understand standards such as WCAG, EN 301 549, BITV 2.0 and the requirements around EAA and BFSG. We also know how to implement them in a practical, maintainable way.

03

Design and Access Together

Accessible websites do not have to look like compliance projects. We design websites that are accessible and still show the ambition of the company.

04

Testing Beyond Checklists

Automated tools only identify part of accessibility issues. We also test manually with screen readers, keyboard navigation and magnification in real scenarios.

05

Accessible Over Time

Accessibility should remain part of the process when new content, functions or design changes are introduced. We train teams, review regularly and stay available.

Accessibility Compliance

Does Your Website Need to Become Accessible?

We audit the current website against WCAG, identify the most critical barriers and develop a plan that addresses requirements for affected offers while improving the user experience.

In Practice

Accessibility in Practice.

Accessibility remains an ongoing responsibility: new content, functions and standards require regular review, editorial care and technical support.

Key Questions

Before the Project.

What is an accessible website?

An accessible website is designed and developed so as many people as possible can use it reliably, regardless of device, input method or individual limitations. Technically, it means semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, sufficient contrast, alternative text, clear structures and understandable content.

What do EAA and BFSG require for websites?

The European Accessibility Act and the BFSG set accessibility requirements for affected digital products and services. In practice, affected digital offers usually need orientation toward EN 301 549 and WCAG criteria, transparent documentation, an accessibility statement and a feedback mechanism. Whether and how far an offer is affected should be reviewed case by case.

Which companies are affected by the BFSG?

The BFSG mainly affects providers of certain products and services for consumers, for example in e-commerce, digital services, telecommunications, banking services or e-books. There are exceptions and boundaries, including rules for micro-enterprises in services. Public-sector organizations follow additional requirements such as BITV 2.0. We address technical implementation, but do not replace legal case-by-case review.

Which WCAG criteria need to be met?

WCAG organizes accessibility into four principles: perceivable, operable, understandable and robust. In practice, this includes alternative text, contrast, keyboard access, focus states, form errors, clear navigation and compatibility with assistive technologies. We review the relevant criteria systematically and translate them into design, frontend and content work.

Can an existing website be made accessible?

In many cases, accessibility can be improved after launch through changes to HTML structure, ARIA attributes, contrast, keyboard navigation, forms and content. The effort depends on how the website is built. If structural weaknesses are too deep, an accessible relaunch can be the better solution. We evaluate both paths.

What does an accessible website cost?

That depends on whether the project is a new build, remediation or relaunch. Effort comes from analysis, design review, frontend changes, testing, documentation and editorial standards. For existing websites, the technical foundation strongly determines whether focused remediation is enough or an accessible relaunch is the more sensible path.

How is accessibility tested?

Accessibility is tested through a combination of automated checks and manual review. Tools such as axe, WAVE or Lighthouse provide important signals, but they do not replace real use. We also test with screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification and real scenarios, including forms, menus, interactive components and dynamic sections.

Does accessibility limit design?

Accessibility does not need to limit design. It sets standards for contrast, type sizes, focus states, color independence and usability. Within those standards, there is still substantial room for design, and many requirements improve quality across many usage situations.

Does my website need an accessibility statement?

If your organization falls under BFSG, EAA-related requirements, public-sector accessibility rules or comparable obligations, an accessibility statement may be required. It documents the current conformance status, names known limitations and provides a feedback mechanism for reporting barriers. BxW prepares this statement technically and editorially based on audit results.

Will accessibility remain after launch?

Only if it is actively maintained. New content, plugins, design changes or CMS updates can introduce barriers. That is why we train editorial teams in accessible content work, including alternative text, heading structure, link text and document formats, and offer regular reviews so the website stays accessible.

Discuss an Accessible Website.

Whether you need a new accessible website, EAA/BFSG alignment or an audit of an existing website, the best starting point is a clear conversation about requirements, audiences and the path toward an accessible digital presence.
